Can you take your dog to college?

College is an incredible time, full of great memories, friends and fun! It's a time when many students begin making serious decisions on their own for the first time, and can be sad too. A very realistic question for some student's have been - Can I take my dog to college with me? Should I take my dog to college with me?

Now, it's crucial to understand that not everyone comes from the same situation, that is, whether the dog can be left at home or not. However, there are some important things to note when deciding whether or not to take your dog to college with you.

The first thing to think about is -different colleges or universities have different rules regarding having pets in the dorms. If you are an incoming freshman, typically you will live in the dorms (unfortunately, this is where the restrictions are tighter!). Many dorms don't allow pets for a two simple reasons: college kids aren't typically the most responsible and the rooms are small!

Another thing to consider might be whether or not you will have time to treat your pet with the respect and attention they deserve. In the midst of a exciting social scene and learning how to study and prepare for college tests, the experience can be draining. If coming home exhausted to your pet, which has been excited all day to play with you, is a reality—you should really consider if this is in the best interest for the pet. We cannot all be like Buster in the movie - Legally Blonde and get to take along our pet.

All in all—it can work both ways! Some of the most fun times to have a pet are in college, when you're taking your pup to intramural games and on late-night runs throughout the greek. However, if you are not in a position to adequately take care of your friend, do the right thing: find alternate housing or someone who can truly love and take care of your friend. It's sad but but what would be more sad is to have a lonely pet.

We search and we ask and we hunt and sometimes finding the "perfect" little items for our babies " Easter basket" is so hard. October is such a busy month; Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Halloween, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month and.... Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

On October 29, 2010 the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society and the Jonesboro Elks Lodge #498 and local Disc Jockey Mark Taylor will team up to help raise money for NEA Humane Society. This great and fun event will take place at the Jonesboro Elks Lodge and will begin at 7:00pm.

Admission is $10 with costume and $15 without a costume. Tickets will be sold at the door. Music will be provided by DJ - Mark Taylor. Costume contests and other fun events will be held.

The pet grieving process.......

We all have had a loss in our life and the loss of a pet is just as devastating as the loss of a human being to some. To many of us, a family pet is the one that we adore for years and the one that is always there for us.

Grieving for your dog is a natural and very needed process. Many people feel like losing a pet is just a loss, not realizing how very sad the process can be when your best friend is no longer around.

For older people, losing a pet can be devastating because it sometimes is all the companionship they have. No matter who it is that has been experienced the loss - the pain can be gut wrenching and often times very hard to recover from.

There are some ways to help cope with pet loss:

- Help your children cope and all of you mourn together
- You may feel guilt, denial, anger and depression. All those feelings are normal to feel. The important part is getting over it and moving forward in your life.
-It is alright to grieve. Do not let people dictate your feelings.
-It's good to remember, let yourself remember and think back.

Wet or Dry Dog Food.. which is the better choice?

There are so many choices of dog food - do you want to choose wet food, dry food, moist food and then there are the choices of brands. Where do you start in trying to figure out which one will be best fit for your dog or puppy.

Asking your Vet is one for sure way to find out which is best for your dog, but there are other things that come into play when choosing the right dog food for your dog. Is your dog a Senior? Does your dog have health issues? What is your dog's size/ breed/ etc? What brand and or type will fit into your finances?

Honestly, both kinds of dog food are acceptable. Dry dog food is made up of dry ingredients, small amount of water is added and then the dough is then baked and made into little shapes.. (little bones). You can also check the ingredients to see what mixture your dry dog food is made up of to help determine what your dog likes, dislikes or needs as a part of his health program.

Wet dog food contains wet ingredients such as meat, vegetables and have more water included in the mixture. Canned foods are more easily digested but sometimes can cause stomach problems, especially if eating too quickly. Wet food is a great choice for older dogs who have a hard time chewing or have teeth issues as it is softer in their mouth.

The best way to choose the right food for your dog is to research and talk with your Vet. Your Vet can provide you with important nutritional value advice and a direction that you need that will be best for your dog.

It is easy to focus on Art when you are walking down Joyce Street in Fayetteville, Arkansas and happen to see a piece of Art by Jane Wier Davadian. We all see art through different eyes, however we all love our animals and most people have a great sense of humor and love the work of Jane Wier Davadian.
Jane Wier Davadian is a local artist to Fayetteville, Arkansas who has been painting portraits and murals for over 40 years. Jane gives classes in her Arkansas gallery and and has worked for Trinity Broadcasting Network for many years painting the beautiful ceilings and wall Murals in their stations. In 1995, Jane opened a gallery, on Dickson Street, it has now moved to a high-traffic location on Township and then more recently to a larger southwest Fayetteville "warehouse" space. With Jane's beautiful paintings and murals in mind, we must focus on the "Celebrity Dog Art" that Sugarbears Pampered Pets is thrilled to be carrying in their store and online.
